Sick of supporting sweat shops every time you buy clothes? Now you can fight sweat shops with every thread you buy. NoSweatShop.com has created the first casual clothing brand that fights sweatshops 5 ways. Check out their clothing line and see how you can help drive sweatshops out of business.
Another terrific business just recently featured in a New York Times article is American Apparel, based in Los Angeles. The company recently moved all of its operations from Mexico to L.A. two years ago, and now manufactures its clothing line through "vertical integration," whereby designers, marketers, cutters, sewers, and knitters all work together in one big pink factory that was once a rail depot. According to Dov Charney, American Apparel's founder, "You think it makes you proud to pay someone $40 a week to make shirts all day? I spend $40 on a drink."
That's one expensive drink - or a ridiculously low wage to pay a Mexican worker.
