The NY Times is running a story detailing how President Obama might be able to avoid the debt ceiling crises from blowing up by circumventing the Constitution:
The view that Mr. Obama could continue borrowing without Congressional authorization is based on three arguments. One is grounded in an aggressive understanding of presidential power, the second in an interpretation of an obscure provision of the 14th Amendment and the third on a choice among three irreconcilable constitutional obligations.
A senior administration official was dismissive of all three options, calling them "unicorn theories," reflecting the White House’s position that only Congress can solve a problem of its own creation.
Unicorn theories, indeed! The real reason they don't want to follow through on any of these options is that it would mean that the Executive branch would be doing the dirty work that the Legislative branch should be doing itself.
Obama should stand strong against these Republicans who are trying to usurp the Constitution through this hostage taking incident.
