Cotton Subsidies
November 12, 2003 10:31 PM

Did you know that $1.68 billion of your taxpayer's money has gone to subsidize cotton growers, with the top 10 corporate recipients receiving over $80 million each since 1995? That's right, the NY Times just reported on this last week, and now the figures are posted on the web at the Environmental Working Group website

This is just one aspect of how we spend over $180 billion on farm subsidies. The Times has been studying this problem and reporting at their Harvesting Poverty web site.

And finally, we have an essay that talks about this problem as well.
