Oscar Peterson
(b. 8/15/25 - Montreal, Canada)

Title: Night Train
Personnel: Oscar Peterson (piano), Ray Brown (bass), Ed Thigpen (drums).
Recorded: 1962
Label: Verve
Comments: As a child prodigy in Canada, Oscar Peterson won many piano competitions before he stormed the jazz scene in the early 50's. Notable for his amazing proficiency, Oscar's trios have dazzled audiences for over 40 years. This CD is a near perfect example of one of his most popular trios, featuring the incomparable Ray Brown on bass and the effervescent Ed Thigpen on drums.
Title: Trio Live at Chicago
Personnel: Oscar Peterson (piano), Ray Brown (bass), Ed Thigpen (drums).
Recorded: 1961
Label: Verve
Comments: A live recording of this great trio, you get some fresh material that only comes about in when the microphones are turned on in the club. A must have CD!
Title: Oscar Peterson and Roy Eldridge
Personnel: Oscar Peterson (piano), Roy Eldridge (trumpet).
Recorded: 1974
Label: Verve
Comments: Oscar released a series of duo albums with trumpet, including this one, in addition to CD's with Dizzy Gillespie, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Clark Terry, and Jon Faddis, all around the same time. All are fascinating recordings, but this one sticks out as Oscar plays organ on a few tracks!
