Title: 80/81 Personnel: Pat Metheny (guitar), Charlie Haden (bass), Dewey Redman (tenor sax), Michael Brecker (tenor sax), Jack DeJohnette (drums) Recorded: 1980-81 Label: ECM Comments: Absolutely one of the most important musicians of the last 25 years in any genre, Pat Metheny has a sound, style, and compositional approach completely unique to any other. He has successfully straddled the contemporary jazz scene with the more straight-ahead movement, and has influenced every guitarist since he revealed himself in Boston in the late 70's. 80/81 is a powerful double CD packed with just incredible music. |

Title: Bright Size Life Personnel: Pat Metheny (guitar), Jaco Pastorius (bass), Bob Moses (drums). Recorded: 1976 Label: ECM Comments: Pat's first CD, Bright Size Life is an incredible introduction of his genius, with most of the songs penned by the 19 year old. This recording also shows off Jaco Pastorius' incredible facility on the bass. A must have for all Pat Metheny fans. |

Title: Question and Answer Personnel: Pat Metheny (guitar), Dave Holland (bass), Roy Haynes (drums). Recorded: 1990 Label: Geffen Comments: The pairing of Pat with Roy Haynes was a brilliant maneuver by some producer and has subsequently produced some amazing music, not restricted to this classic album of the 90's. This trio went into the studio, turned on the microphones, and just started playing...just incredible interplay that is fresh and sublime, all at the same time. |
