Title: Brubeck Time (Remastered) Personnel: Dave Brubeck (piano), Paul Desmond (alto sax), Gene Wright (bass), and Joe Morello (drums). Recorded: 1955 Label: Sony/Columbia Comments: In the early to middle 1950's, Dave Brubeck's quartet was a phenomenon in America, having found tremendous success on the college touring circuit. Culminating in Brubeck's appearance on the cover of Time Magazine in November 1954, the popularity of this band demanded a recording on a major label. "Brubeck Time" is the first recording of this band on Columbia, and would be followed by the hugely poplar "Time Out." |

Title: Time Out (Remastered) HDCD Personnel: Dave Brubeck (piano), Paul Desmond (alto sax), Gene Wright (bass), and Joe Morello (drums). Recorded: 1959 Label: Sony/Columbia Comments: This recording is one of the classics of jazz history. Featuring the odd time signature of the enormously popular song, "Take Five," Time Out, is a must-have record, especially of any Dave Brubeck fan. Brubeck was widely respected at the time as a true innovator, stretching out in his compositions using the 5/4 and 9/4 time signatures (vs. the more widely used 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures). Also, many of his songs ("In Your Own Sweet Way" and "The Ship," for instance) have become "jazz standards," those songs played over and over again by all jazz musicians. |
