PA)
Title: Brown and Roach, Inc. Personnel: Clifford Brown (trumpet), Max Roach (Drums), Harold Land (tenor sax), George Morrow (bass), Richie Powell (piano). Recorded: 1954 Label: Emarcy/Verve Comments: Clifford Brown was unique in his day for his crystal clear tone, immaculate technique, and "clean" style of living, and was much loved and much admired by his fellow musicians. The jazz world was dealt a terrible blow by his early death in an automobile accident on the way to a gig in 1956 (Richie Powell, Bud Powell's little brother, also died in the accident that night). This record documents Clifford as a co-leader with Max, after he got his start in the Art Blakey Band the year earlier. |
