It's really quite simple, Congress: CLOSE THE LOOPHOLES!
Said Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), chairman of the subcommittee: "The offshore tax-avoidance tactics spotlighted by the subcommittee do real harm. They disadvantage domestic U.S. companies that aren't in a position to reduce their tax bills using offshore tax gimmicks. They offload Appleās tax burden onto other taxpayers -- in particular, onto working families and small businesses. The lost tax revenue feeds a budget deficit that has reached troubling proportions, and has helped lead to round after round of budget slashing and the ill-advised sequestration now threatening our economic recovery."
And yet you have bloviators, like Rand Paul, saying crap like this:
"Frankly, I'm offended by the tone and tenor of this hearing," said Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky) in his opening statement. "I'm offended by a $4 trillion government bullying, berating and badgering one of America's greatest success stories.""If anyone should be on trial here, it should be Congress," Paul continued. "I frankly think the committee should apologize to Apple. The Congress should be on trial here for creating a Byzantine and bizarre tax code."
Yup - it's Congress's fault for attacking Apple, instead of Congress doing their job closing these loopholes that allow Apple to shelter income offshore for free.
What a joke.
