Recycling Computers and Other Electronic Items
June 27, 2005 10:15 PM

Ever wonder what to do with that first, second, third, fourth (?) computer that's sitting around collecting dust? We all know how toxic the innards of a computer are, but where does one send it to be recycled or reused?

Believe it or not, Gateway has a terrific page on its site with links to many organizations around the country. Just one of them is this very comprehensive site: Earth 911.

If you live in the New York City metropolitan area, check out this organization, Per Scholas, in The Bronx. Set up in an empowerment zone, this terrific company has a 100,000 square foot recycling facility capable of processing more than 500,000 dead monitors, CPUs, and printers annually. They also employ students to assemble reconditioned computers.
