Electronic Voting
November 12, 2006 12:58 PM

After the disastrous 2000 election debacle in Florida, all of the problems in 2004, and the continued problems in 2006, I'm sure that we are all in agreement that our antiquated voting machines need to be upgraded. It is 2006, afterall. [This same topic was covered extensively two years ago in the 2004 elections]

The New York Times ran a terrific series of editorials, TWO YEARS AGO, detailing "the flaws in the mechanics of our democracy, including the reliability of electronic voting machines, obstacles to voter registration and turnout, and the lack of competitive congressional elections due to partisan drawing of district lines."

An editorial back in 2004 concerning electronic voting machines in California is just as appropriate today (why on earth are e-voting machines less secure than slot machines or ATMs?), while the entire series, Making Votes Count, can be read here.

The problems continued this year, with over 17,000 incidents reported!
