Martin Luther King Speech Opposing the Vietnam War
January 27, 2006 10:21 PM

As a belated tribute to the late, great, Martin Luther King, we link here to his momentous speech announcing his opposition to the Vietnam War. Delivered on April 4, 1967, at the magnificent Riverside Church in New York City, this speech was a slap in the face to President Johnson, with whom he had partnered the civil rights legislation a few years earlier. Johnson felt betrayed when MLK turned on him, and this speech quite possibly led to his murder exactly one year later.

"A time comes when silence is betrayal." Thus starts Mr. King's speech, the entirety which can be read here.

This speech is particularly appropriate in relation to our own Vietnam going on right now in 2006 in Iraq.
