Rockefeller responds to Bush's NSA crisis
December 19, 2005 6:43 PM

It's pretty clear that the Bush administration feels like it can just ignore the constitution and the laws written by Congress. Case in point is the latest NSA spying-on-Americans scandal.

Bush has argued that his administration consulted with members of Congress in enacting this new executive power, yet we now have Senator Jay Rockefeller's (D-WV) handwritten note to Vice President Cheney outlining his concerns. In the handwritten letter, Rockefeller mentions the fact that he was not "consulted," he was told about the new program, and instructed that he was forbidden to speak with anyone about it - including his staff and/or his legal team!

Read the handwritten note. It's pretty powerful.

The original story in the New York Times from 12/16/05 can be found here.
