As Josh Marshall is reporting, the White House has released the executive order creating this new commission to investigate the Iraq mess.
The commission was given no subpoena power, only the right to "full and complete access to information relevant to its mission as described in section 2 of this order."
Also, nowhere does the order direct the commission to investigate how the White House used the intelligence from the CIA, or the role that Cheney's Office of Special Plans played in creating Iraq policy.
This commission is a joke, and the fact that it's not required to deliver its final report until March 31, 2005, is an outrage to the American public. For political reasons, this administration is delaying this toothless investigation until after the elections, again avoiding all accountability for its actions.
Indeed, the lack of accountability is turning out to be the lasting legacy of this president - at the expense of our security as a nation.
